I’m still waiting on some video for part two of “ESPN Lies“. Luckily something of such game-changing proportions just happened, that we’ve got something pretty interesting to talk about while we wait…

On Friday Nick Bloch hit a Snatch PR of 305# from blocks, a Clean & Jerk PR of 365#, and a Clean PR of 405# – for a DOUBLE. I posted the videos, and threw in some not-so-subtle hints that Nick was gunning for Marco Coppola’s title of “King of the Outlaws”. Marco did not like this.

He’s been chasing a 400# Clean & Jerk for quite a while now, and after seeing Nick’s assault on his crown texted me and basically said, “If I hit a 400 Clean & Jerk you’re buying me the shiniest crown on earth, and acknowledging that I’m the King for life.” I agreed knowing that: 1) aluminum foil is very shiny, and 2) Marco had just missed the Jerk at 385# a week ago, and was something like 25# lighter than when he last Clean & Jerked 385#. Basically, I didn’t think he had a chance.

Apparently the aluminum foil crown is important to King Coppola.

Just a few hours ago Marco hit a FOURHUNDRED POUND CLEAN & JERK, for a 15# lifetime PR, and giving him – what I believe to be – the highest WL total of any active competitive exerciser (141kg Snatch/182kg C&J – 323kg total @ just under 100kg). This is also, IMO of course, the most impressive lift ever performed by an exerciser. I know of one other 400# C&J, but this one was clean as a whistle, and would have gotten three white lights on any platform at any meet in the world.

Here it is… The King for life, Marco Coppola – Clean & Jerking 400 pounds:

This is the final week of the first of three parts that will make up our first off-season twelve week cycle (15 after de-loads), for both TOW and Outlaw Barbell. De-load is coming next week.

    • Nice work man. Always good to have a number to chase after. Way to kill it, and me.

      • Sometimes it’s the only way to really find out what “max effort” truely is. I remember doing “The Sevens” and dying on HSPU. Safe to say Outlaws don’t have issues with HSPU’s.
